Staff Profiles

Anthony Mowatt, Managing Director

Anthony received his initial training in the law practice of David Pinto and Co., one of the pioneers in the development of uninsured loss recovery.  He rapidly acquired a broad knowledge of related topics and became an important fee earner for the practice.  Recognising the transition of the business from purely legal practices into the insurance industry, he then set up Linkfield Legal Services Limited as a legal expenses insurance brokerage in partnership with the Brian Johnston Group of Redhill, combining this work with the development of the general insurance broking business of the group.  In 1998 he sold his interest in Linkfield to form Keystone Legal Benefits Limited.

Anthony was a member of the Lord Chancellor's consultative committee responding to the Government's proposed changes to Access to Justice.

Anthony has an active involvement in the ABI/Law Society sponsored industry summit, and is retained by leading ATE law firm Amelands as a member of their team recently succeeding in the milestone cases Callery v Grey and Sarwar v Allam.

Christopher Marden ACII, Director

Chris has worked in the insurance sector for nearly 30 years, gaining his ACII in 1978.  This extensive experience of liability issues has proven invaluable in his role at Keystone.

Prior to joining Keystone in 1996, Chris worked at Zurich Insurance for 26 years.  During this time he completed several advanced training courses and worked in various capacities including motor and liability insurances before moving to claims work in 1979.  He was appointed senior claims inspector in 1987.

Graham Gill FCII, Underwriting Manager

Graham qualified for his ACII in 1966 and his FCII in 1977.  Since 1963 Graham has been involved in all types of claims other than life claims.  He has worked with the Royal & SunAlliance Group, CIS, Eagle Star and Amlin at Lloyd's, where he was heavily involved in personal injury work, specifically EL, PL and RTA.

Graham's litigation experience has been gained in the UK and the Caribbean/North American injury claims markets.  In the latter he gained knowledge and experience of North American contingency fee practice and procedures.

Graham was a member of the working party of claims managers that set up Eagle Star's ‘Panel' arrangements with loss adjusters – the first in the industry.

His extensive and relevant claims handing experience has made him one of the leading personal injury underwriters for legal expenses in the country.

Jim Charlton, Systems Manager

Jim joined Keystone in 1998 from Zurich Insurance where he headed up the Consumer Claims Division of Zurich International that dealt with claims against multi-national retailers and manufacturers in the food industry.  His 30 years experience of handling public liability claims means that there are few accident scenarios he has not seen.  He admits that it was rather strange at first to be making claims against companies whose accounts he used to control but was surprised at how easily he made the transition.  In addition, Jim's experience covers a broad range of classes including industrial disease, motor, employers and product liability.

Paul Collins ACII, Senior Underwriter

Paul qualified as a Chartered Insurer in 2003, prior to which he worked as a Development Underwriter and claims professional for 18 years with Royal & SunAlliance. He has been responsible for settling complex and litigious personal injury claims and more recently has gained experience in underwriting and developing portfolios of profitable business.

Paul joined Keystone in April 2004. As an experienced underwriter with extensive claims experience he is able to draw on a range of technical skills and abilities to underwrite ATE legal expenses for all types of claims.

David Wedlock, Senior Underwriter

David's career in insurance claims began in 1980 and prior to joining Keystone in 2006 he held various positions with major international Defendant insurers, dealing with complex, technical claims and litigation, both personally and in supervisory and managerial roles.

David Stoker LLB, Assistant Underwriter

David qualified as a Batchelor of Law LLB in 2003 with honours. He subsequently attended the College of Law and obtained a 'Commendation' on the Legal Practice Course.

He has excellent investigative and research ability as well as a keen eye for detail. He has recently worked as a case handler for 2 firms of solicitors and gained experience in PI work from Industrial Disease to Motor Claims. David joined the Keystone Underwriting team in January 2007.

Nicholas Arnold BA (Hons), Assistant Underwriter

Nick joined Keystone in January 2002, having graduated from Surrey Institute of Art & Design with an Upper Second Class Honours Degree in Graphic Design the previous summer.

Originally a member of the call centre team Nick has worked his way through the ranks, developing his skills and understanding of ATE insurance. Following a stint appraising and filtering prospective claims he moved into the Underwriting department and has since become involved in Keystone's recent new marketing, branding and product initiatives.

Martin Roberts, Independent Consultant and Underwriter

Martin is CEO of the FinMAC credit insurance underwriting agency.  He is also an independent business consultant and expert witness.

He has nearly 40 years experience in insurance related businesses, primarily associated with credit and financial risks.

As underwriter for the British National credit insurance division he devised and produced the contract form which became the de facto industry standard for Excess of Loss Credit Insurance.

He was previously engaged by Citibank as director and chief underwriting officer for a newly formed credit insurance company before returning to credit insurance and general business consultancy in 1992.

He is currently a non-executive Director of Ambac Assurance UK Limited, the UK subsidiary of Ambac Indemnity Corporation which is a New York based insurer of municipal and structured finance obligations and rated 'triple A' by Moody's Investors Service.
